Mrs. Anne Mohan

The death occurred on June 10, 2010, of Anne Mohan, a well-known face at the long established Mohan's shop in Follom, near Rosslea.

There are people who bring warmth to every room they enter and Anne, a much loved wife and mother lit up the lives of everyone who met her.

From early childhood in Killeevan, Co. Monaghan, Anne showed a capacity for both hard work and good humour.

One of a family of five girls Mae, Teresa, Rose, and Cora and two boys Noel and Joseph, she grew up on a farm with a penchant for working hard.

She trained at the famous Catering College at Cathal Bruagha St., Dublin and worked in some of the biggest hotels in Ireland before returning to work in the Creighton Hotel in Clones.

Anne married John Mohan in 1969 and Monaghan's loss was said to be Fermanagh's gain.

A keen sports fan, she followed the fortunes of the local Aghadrumsee team, supporting it with fundraising events such as guest teas and ticket selling.

She also shared John's interest in greyhounds and never missed Saturday night's Match of the Day on TV.

Anne touched the lives of a whole community at Mohan's shop in Follom, a few miles from Roslea.

Everyone went there for the local news, groceries and for Anne herself. If she wasn't in the shop (no matter how late it was) she would come running down the street as soon as the car drew up. If the shop was out of bread, she ran up to the house and wrapped up a loaf rather than see anyone short.

Anne never walked - she just ran through life with endless energy and good humour.

She appreciated that for some the shop was a social lifeline, taking time to ring people who were unwell and send over groceries if needed.

Anne treated young and old with kindness, remembering children's names, partner's details and providing a welcome to newcomers to the area.

She was the original multi-tasker, keeping the adults in chat and the children simultaneously delighted with free sweets.

Anne thought the world of John and their three children, John, Mary and Thomas and she was equally proud of their achievements.

Her greatest worry, when diagnosed with cancer, was not about herself but how they could manage.

She was an example to all in her optimism and strength of character and faith with which she met her illness.

The month's mind Mass for Anne Mohan (nee Larmer) will be held at St. Macartan's, Aghadrumsee on July 11 at 10am.
