A much loved father and grandfather, Tommie Johnston, late of Derryhowlaght, Bellanaleck, passed away at the South West Acute Hospital on December 21, 2013.
Tommie was born on May 16, 1922, the second eldest son of John and Violet Johnston. Tommie was educated at Mullinveigh School until he was 14. He then worked at home on the family farm.
On October 17, 1956, Tommie married Brenda Olive Humphreys, Cam, Thompson’s Bridge, Derrylin.
Tommie was always a farmer at heart. It was where he got most satisfaction. He ran a dairy and suckling herd. He had a great sense of humour and this along with his knowledge of farming and a willingness to lend a hand, made him a popular neighbour and friend.
He attended Cleenish Parish Church and was a member of Granshagh LOL.
The large attendance at his funeral was an indication of the respect people held Tommie in.
In August 2008 his wife Brenda sadly passed away. This was a major blow to him. Tommie was also predeceased by his brothers William, Harry and Frank.
He is survived by his sons Leslie (Elizabeth), Noel (Jenifer), Norman (Carol), John and daughters Susan (Robert), Caroline and 17 grandchildren.
The chosen hymns were “What a friend we have in Jesus,” “The Lord’s my Shepherd” and “Safe in the arms of Jesus.” The service was conducted by the Rev. Bridle and the organist was Mrs. Joan Brownlee.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Austen Stinson (W. T. Morrison), Enniskillen.
