A much loved, devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, Frank Maguire passed away peacefully at his home in Gortineddan, Derrylin on March 1, 2014, aged 80 years.

Frank was born on January 14, 1934 at Corratrasna Glebe, Derrylin, the eldest son of James and Nora Maguire. He was educated at Stonepark Primary school, which he left at 14 to work alongside his parents and later his siblings, on the family farm. His further education was his experiences of life and he soon became a knowledgeable man on livestock, land and machinery.

In 1967, he married Mary Martin from Corratrasna Rock and moved to his new farm at Oakwood, Gortineddan on the Cavan, Fermanagh border. There he worked incessantly, increasing his holding and his livestock and built up an admirable dairy herd. When his son, Paul, joined him on the farm they shared the work and he was proud of their mutual enjoyment of farm life and his passion for farming remained with him until his passing.

Above all else, Frank was a family man. He was a kind, thoughtful and loving husband to Mary and, generous father to Seamus, Paul and Olivia, not just in the material sense but with his time. During his retirement years he loved the company of his six grandchildren who shared their love of life with him. He was also a devoted Christian, loyal to the values he inherited from his parents, especially the Rosary, and these values he handed on to his own children.

His great faith maintained him in a happy acceptance of his short illness and in preparation for his final parting.

Frank’s Requiem Mass was concelebrated by his brother, the Rev. Fr. Jim and the Rev. Fr. Fintan McKiernan, both of whom spoke movingly about him.

Also concelebrating were the Rev. Fr. Enda Murphy, a family friend; the Rev. Fr. Gerry Comiskey, P.P. Staghall; the Rev. Fr. Phair P.P. Kilnavart; the Rev. Fr. Eamonn Lynch P.P. Ballyconnell. Music for the liturgy was provided by Brenda Gunn and readings were by family members - all adding to a fitting tribute to a much loved man.

Frank is survived by his wife, Mary, daughter Olivia Keegan (Merv), sons Seamus (Claire) and Paul (Pauline); his grandchildren Rory, Pippa, Ellie, Cara, Katie and Ciara; his sisters Rita McNulty and Nora Donohoe, his brothers the Rev. Fr. Jim, Paddy and Brian and a wide family circle. He was predeceased by his sisters Anna Cassidy and Mary McCorry.

The funeral arrangements were by Tom McNulty, Peter and Bernard Carty.
