A member of a well-known business family in Fermanagh, Mrs. Olive Florence Creighton, late of Farnamullan Road, Lisbellaw, passed away peacefully at Gortacharn Nursing Home in Lisnaskea, on June 9, 2014. A familiar face in R.J.N. Creighton, Lisbellaw, she had worked there alongside her husband, John (who survives her) and his family, prior to her retirement. Aged 84 years, she had been in declining health for a short period.

She was formerly Olive Taylor, born at Dromahair, Co. Leitrim, and moved to Fermanagh in 1940. A daughter of Harry and Emily Taylor, her mother died when she was five and an aunt helped raised the family. The family settled at Celtic Park, Enniskillen, when she was 10. She attended Enniskillen Model School and the Technical College.

She worked as a clerk with Sligo Leitrim and Northern Counties Railway, where she started at 14. She took up employment with the National Assistance Board where she remained until her marriage to John Creighton from Lisbellaw. They made their home in the village on main street, and then moved to Farnamullan Road, about 20 years ago. Their three daughters are Sharon, Rachel and Judith.

Olive worked in R.J.N. Creighton Ltd. hardware and draper’s shop, working in the drapery with her mother-in-law Evelyn Margaret (Daisy) Creighton.

She retired in her early sixties, while her husband John carried on working in the business.

Home and family were very important to Olive, who became a Christian in W.P. Nicholson’s Mission at Enniskillen Presbyterian Church in 1947. A committed Christian, it was her main interest for Olive, who was latterly a member of Erne West Congregational Church. She was very musical and a very talented singer and she sang in choirs and as a soloist.

Her funeral service, conducted by the Rev. John Magee of Erne West Congregational Church, was held at Lisbellaw Parish Church, kindly granted; the family is appreciative of the help received from Lisbellaw Parish Church. Lynda Lindsay was the organist and soloist. Lynda sang at Gortacharn and Olive appreciated what she did. Burial was at Tattygar Road Cemetery, where the Rev. Magee officiated, having also officiated at the home.

Olive is survived by her husband John, and daughters: Sharon and husband Ian McMaster; Rachel; and Judith and husband Marty Collins. She leaves her grandchildren: Laura and fiancé Johnny; Andrew; Matthew and fiancee Rachael; and Oliver; her great-granddaughter Taylor; her niece and nephews, and her husband’s brother Breen. She was predeceased by her brother Ted and her sisters Betty and Caroline.

The funeral arrangements were by Funeral Directors, S.R. Elliott and Sons, Darling Street, Enniskillen.
