The death has taken place at his home in Lincoln, England, of Paul McCauley, a native of Enniskillen. A member of a well-known Fermanagh family, news of his unexpected passing in March this year, at the age of 61 years, has been received with sadness in his home county, where he is fondly remembered.

Born in Enniskillen - at Derrin Road, Cornagrade - Paul was educated at Abbey Street School and the Presentation Brothers’ School in Enniskillen.

During the early part of his career he worked in Lunny’s vets, while his early working life also saw him work with his late brother-in-law Mick McQuaid and his late sister Anne McQuaid; he worked for them as a baker in Castlederg and he had been very talented at baking and decorating cakes.

Having taken up employment in England, Paul worked at Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire, England. He went to Lincoln, where he had a brother and sister living at that time and he worked on the railways in Lincoln and he then went to Smith’s Crisps.

Although Paul had been away for Fermanagh for about 40 years, he is warmly remembered by his old friends in the county. His interests included reading.

A funeral service was held in Lincoln for Paul. Tributes were also paid to him at a recent funeral held at St. Michael’s Church, Enniskillen, led by the Rev. Fr. David Donnelly, who was the main celebrant.

Paul had been cremated in England and his ashes were laid to rest on the grave at Breandrum Cemetery, Enniskillen, of his late parents - Lily and Joseph McCauley.

His Fermanagh relatives who survive Paul are his brothers Francis, Enniskillen, Joseph, Lincoln, Syl, Enniskillen, and his sister Mena, Croydon. He was predeceased by his brothers Brian and Nicholas and his sisters Bunty and Anne. Also surviving Paul are the wider family circle and his friends.

Following the burial, refreshments were provided at his brother Francis’s home by Francis’s wife Margaret McCauley and friends.
