A loving father and devoted grandfather held in high regard, Mr. Robert Aiken of Drumkeen, Ballinamallard passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2014.

Robert was born on January 14, 1925, the third eldest of eight children born to Robert and Rebecca Aiken of Craghan, Ballinamallard. He left school at the age of 14 and helped his father in the forge. He married a local girl Edith Griffith and moved to Belfast where he set up home and worked with J.P. Corry’s Sawmills for 43 years before retiring at the age of 65.

Edith and Robert had one son Trevor. When Edith died in 2002, Robert returned to Ballinamallard to live with his sister Maisie. Her health declined in recent years and Robert looked after her until her death in August 2014. He was a selfless man who was happy when helping others. Robert was a member of Ballinamallard Orange and Black Lodge and was proud and honoured earlier this year to receive his 70 year jewel.

Robert leaves a son, Trevor, daughter-in-law Margaret and grandsons Steven and Mark.

He also leaves two sisters, Patsy in Ballinamallard, Maud in Belfast, and a brother Henry in Dollingstown. He was predeceased by his wife Edith in May 2002 and brothers Fred, Billy, and sisters Mabel and Maisie.

Remembered as a true gentleman in every sense of the word, he was loved by all the family and he loved them.

The funeral arrangements were undertaken by Funeral Directors, S.R. Elliott and Sons, Darling Street, Enniskillen.
