The new Editor of the Impartial Reporter is Sarah Saunderson, it has been announced.

Sarah has been a senior journalist with the newspaper for almost 20 years, and has been assistant editor since 1997.

Sarah is originally from Enniskillen, a former pupil of Enniskillen Collegiate and she obtained a degree in English and History at Edinburgh University and a post-graduate diploma in Journalism at Strathclyde University in Glasgow.

After working in the media in Scotland, she returned to her native Fermanagh and took up a position at the Impartial in 1994.

Sarah, one of two daughters of Ken Saunderson and the late Vera Saunderson, has long family links with the Impartial Reporter.

Her great-aunt Gertie Fleming worked for the company’s print room in the 1890s, and her grandmother Norah Saunderson was a compositor with the paper.

Her grandfather, Bertie Saunderson was well-known in the Impartial where he had a lifelong career in printing.

Sarah is married to Eamonn and they have one son, Rory.The family lives in Enniskillen.

Sarah has played an increasingly important part in the senior editorial team which has seen the paper progress to the point of winning numerous Northern Ireland-wide awards.Announcing her appointment last week, the Managing Director of the company Graham Morrison said he wished Sarah well.

“I am sure that she has all the right credentials and attributes to take the Impartial forward into a new and exciting era.” “She is an experienced journalist who has an enthusiastic commitment to the newspaper,” added Mr. Morrison.

In addition, he announced that Mark Conway will become Deputy Editor, and Brian Donaldson will become Features Editor. Gareth Cauldwell will become Deputy Sports Editor.

“These changes reflect the excellent work of Sarah, Mark and Brian in making the Impartial Reporter an award winning newspaper. I firmly believe these changes will build on the strengths of each individual and ensure the business goes from strength to strength,” said Mr. Morrison.
