A new mental health app has been launched by the Western Health and Social Care Trust for all service users in the western area.

The Trust launched the ‘My Mind’ App for the iPhone at the ‘Discovery to Recovery’ mental health awareness health fair held to-day.

The App allows service users to access evidence-based, up to date information about their condition and the services available to them. It is exclusive to mental health services in the Western Trust area and features videos of local health professionals offering practical information to support the client’s journey to recovery.

The App highlights mental health services that can be accessed in the Trust area including contact details for local support groups and organisations.

Speaking at the launch of the ‘My Mind’ App, Stephen Donnelly, Western Trust Recovery Team Manager said: “The concept of developing a mental health mobile device App for service users, carers and professionals originated from an informal conversation with a service user who had recently been diagnosed with a mental health condition who suggested that the development of an App would make services for mental health related issues more reachable and accessible.” He continued: “The Western Trust currently provides recovery services to approximately 2,570 people with long term mental health conditions. We are committed to supporting people on a journey of recovery and I am certain that this mobile device App has massive potential in helping the Trust deliver a more effective service to those clients and their carers who require mental health services now and in the future.” The free ‘My Mind’ App can be downloaded by searching “My Mind” in iTunes. The App will be available for android devices from July 2014.
