A 27-year-old mother has been warned she will go to jail if she commits another offence after she admitted using a fake Lithuanian driving licence to obtain insurance.

Lolita Kovger, of Woodview, Tempo Road, Enniskillen, also admitted possession of the false Lithuanian licence and driving without a licence and insurance.

She was sentenced to two months in prison, suspended for 12 months, banned from driving for two months and fined £300.

Her 29-year-old husband, Tadeus Kovger, appeared at the same sitting of Fermanagh Court and admitted driving without a licence and insurance.

He was fined £250 and given eight penalty points.

A prosecutor told the court that at approximately 2am on Saturday, February 1, police stopped Lolita Kovger driving a Ford Focus on the Tempo Road in Enniskillen. She was given seven days to produce her licence. On Sunday, February 9, police called at her home and she told them she had not produced her licence as she had lost it while travelling.

Defence solicitor Gary Smyth said Kovger regretted the offences and appearing in court had been a salutary experience.

Deputy District Judge Liam McStay told Kovger it was bad enough when she didn’t have a licence and insurance but she had set out to “deliberately cheat and avoid your responsibility”.

He said these were very serious matters and justified a prison sentence.

However, he told her that because of everything that had been said on her behalf, the content of a pre-sentence report by a probation officer and her guilty plea he would suspend the jail term.

He warned her: “If you commit another offence within 12 months you will go to jail.” The prosecutor went on to tell the court that on Tuesday, May 6, police stopped Kovger’s husband driving a Vauxhall Astra at Woodview, Enniskillen, and arrested him for not having a licence and insurance.

Mr. Smyth said the factory worker’s insurance was invalid because he did not have a licence. He subsequently passed his driving test in Lithuania on June 18.
