Ryan Campbell's 55th minute goal fired Ballinamallard to the points against Glenavon following an entertaining encounter at Ferney Park this afternoon.

Liam McMenamin picked out the run of Liam Martin on the left and the tricky striker raced past Kris Lindsay before cutting the ball back for Campbell who took a touch before rifling the ball to the corner of the net, giving James McGrath no chance.

""What a finish by Ryan Campbell and what a fantastic run by Liam Martin," said delighted Mallards boss Anderson. "Rocket is scoring goals for us at the minute, he's 33 years old but he is so hungry and he knows where the back of the net is.

"It was good to bounce back from Tuesday night's cup defeat and I thought they were tremendous today. I don't think anybody could deny us the win in the end and we could probably have scored a few more. They (Glenavon) are always a danger but I thought we were brilliant defensively. It was a massive win for us," he added.

Glenavon are going through a sticky spell at present, with one draw and five defeats from their last six league games but they should have taken the lead in the 20th minute.

Kevin Braniff's cross from the right found Eoin Bradley but his effort from six yards went over Stefan McCusker's goal.

At the other end Campbell had a shot that was deflected over for a corner and then Johnny Lafferty's overhead kick flew just over the bar.

McCusker then had to be alert to get down low and hold on to a well struck Kyle Neill free kick and on the stroke of half time Ballinamallard had a chance to go in with the advantage but Martin lobbed effort landed on the roof of the net.

It was the home side though who were to take the lead ten minutes after the break with Campbell's thunderous strike but Glenavon should have been level with 13 minutes to go as substitute Darren Forsyth was put through one on one but he fired wide of McCusker's post.

Jason McCartney had the chance to wrap up the points in added on time but he too failed to make the most of a one on one situation.

However, the home side were able to see out the remainder of the game as they moved further clear of the danger zone and closer to mid-table safety thanks to Campbell's goal.
