Fermanagh stories are now finding an international audience through the work of three local men and the work of an Irish TV station.

Irish TV on SKY191, brings local stories from Fermanagh to a global audience every week through the half-hour programme called Fermanagh County Matters, broadcast every Sunday night starting at 7.30pm.

This week, the programme has a fascinating account of footage of the former Erne Hospital as it faced demolition.

The local production team of Bryan Gallagher, Presenter and film cameramen, editor and producer, Conor Lunny and Padraig Lunny were given unrivalled access to walk the corridors of the old hospital and the various departments after they were stripped off doors and fittings and just before the building was demolished.

Conor said: “We were given great access to the hospital with contractors, McCallan Brothers from Tyrone. We saw a dentist chair still there in the dental department, a Bible and flowers still remaining in the mortuary. It was a bit eerie.” “The building was much smaller when you are walking through it without doors and open plan. We walked from A & E up through to the medical ward with everything stripped out and taken away.

“I was born there and my first wee boy was born there and I suppose we all have memories of something from there. You feel much older when you walk out of there,” he said.

Their film piece about the hospital also includes some interviews with staff who made the transition to the new South West Acute Hospital.

Also on this Sunday’s programme will be the 50th anniversary of Enniskillen Motor Club and an interview with Fr. Brian D’Arcy on the forthcoming Novena of Hope at The Graan.

Irish TV was officially launched last Spring and focuses on local stories. Each of the 32 counties have their own slot, all going out to an international audience.

Conor says the Fermanagh County Matters programme is well received by ex-pats, especially those living in England and the United States.

Their presenter, Bryan Gallagher, has now moved away from his radio show and concentrates on Irish TV.

“We try to keep the content about local people and places that would be of interest to ex-pats,” said Conor, saying it is all about engaging with your community and chatting to the local people who have a story to tell.

“Irish TV brings local stories to a global audience and we are asking people across Fermanagh who are the heartbeat of their community to contact us and tell us their story. Our ethos is You Tell Us and We Tell The World,” said Conor.

“Irish TV shines a spotlight on the positive stories from across Fermanagh and further afield, showcasing the wonderful community spirit in every corner of the county. Every week our TV crews across the county promote the vibrancy and essence of life in the Fermanagh, promoting business and community every day of the week on SKY TV 191 and we would be delighted to support and promote your community and business. If people have an event they would like to broadcast to a global audience they can contact us at fermanagh@irishtv.ie.” said Conor Country Music is set to feature prominently this Spring on Irish TV, with a new season of the hugely popular TV show ‘On the Road with Lisa McHugh’ set to return.
