A man seen jumping up and down on the bonnet of a car on his 18th birthday has appeared at Fermanagh Court.

Glenn Boyd, of Cornafannoge Road, Maguiresbridge, admitted damaging a Seat Leon and Hyundai i35.

He also pleaded guilty to having a lock knife at Main Street, Maguiresbridge, and the unlawful possession of the controlled drugs, Ecstasy and fluoromethcathinone.

Boyd was put on probation for 12 months on condition that he takes part in an alcohol and drug counselling programme.

He was also ordered to pay the two men whose cars he damaged £250 compensation each.

A prosecutor told the court that around 2.45am on Saturday, June 7, last year, a man was awakened by the sound of banging outside his home at Main Street, Maguiresbridge. He went out to where his car was parked and saw Boyd, whom he did not know, jumping on the bonnet of the vehicle, causing a large dent. Boyd got down off the vehicle and dropped his passport before making his way off down an alley. The police arrived and on searching Boyd recovered a small lock knife and a white pill from his pocket. He was taken to Enniskillen Police Station and during a further search officers found a small bag of white powder in one of his shoes and a large blue pill in his underpants. He said he had forgotten about the pill in his pocket and said he did not know anything about the item in his underpants. He said he had blacked out some time the previous evening.

Defence barrister Stephen Mooney pointed out that it had been Boyd’s birthday the previous day.

District Judge Nigel Broderick said: “It was an unfortunate 18th birthday.” Mr. Mooney said: “It was a very unfortunate 18th birthday.” He said that when he met Boyd he thought there was a friction between them but now shared Boyd’s mother’s concerns about him.

“He is an individual who is withdrawing into himself,” said Mr. Mooney.

He pointed out that Boyd had no previous convictions.

The District Judge told Boyd: “All this offending on your 18th birthday is regrettable to say the least.”
