The launch of a new colour brochure, Saint Michael’s Church, Enniskillen, coincides this week with the 140th Anniversary of the Dedication of the Church, which took place on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1875.

The leaflet - which will help confirm the place of St. Michael’s Church in the story of Enniskillen and Fermanagh - has been put together by a local parishioner, Mary Gordon.

Monsignor Peter O’Reilly noted that Mary sourced images and sifted through the historic sources and publications in order to present “this accessible, attractive, up-to-date guide.” As well as expressing the hope that “the leaflet will renew a sense of pride for native parishioners,” he said they “hope too that it will make visitors to the town feel welcome.” The foundation stone for the present church was laid by the Most Rev. Dr. Donnelly on August 15, 1870, and on March 17, 1875, the church was dedicated to the service of God under the invocation of St. Michael the Archangel. This was led by the Most Rev. Dr. Donnelly, Lord Bishop of Clogher. The new brochures are now available at the back of the Church.
