Ballinamallard recorded their first ever league win over Glentoran with a priceless 2-0 win at the Oval. Goals from Johnny Courtney and Cathal Beacom earned the Mallards all three points and lifts them up to tenth in the table.

Whitey Anderson opted to give Johnny Courtney his first league start of the season, with Ryan Campbell dropping to the bench as Ballinamallard looked to get their first league win since the opening day of the season.

Ballinamallard made a solid start and had the first sight of goal after ten minutes but Liam Martin failed to connect when the ball dropped to him on the edge of the six yard box. Martin also had a shot from 20 yards saved, but Glentoran came into the game more as the half progressed. The Mallards defence was working hard to deny the home side any space, and they took full advantage on 41 minutes when Cathal Beacom twisted and turned on the edge of the penalty area before sliding a pass through to Courtney, who stroked the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Ballinamallard survived a goal mouth scramble to reach the break a goal ahead and showed few signs of letting their lead slip in the second half. On 54 minutes Cathal Beacom was fouled 25 yards from goal and he picked himself up to drill a low shot into the bottom corner and extend the lead. McCrudden was within inches of adding a third from a free kick but Glentoran never threatened a comeback as the Mallards kept them at bay. The away side was applauded off the pitch by both sets of fans as they celebrated a deserved victory.
