Dear Madam - After reading last week’s paper, it again filled me with sadness about the unfair situation that the school community of Lisnaskea High School has found itself. When you read of a school that was saved exactly a year to the date that Lisnaskea High found out it was closing. Despite the situation of both schools been similar in so many ways, and now also to read that the school was in tens of thousands in more debt. It is in no way any reflection of the school itself, it is good to see the rural school getting kept open for the young people of the area. Also to read that another school, a school in the Lisnaskea area will stay open until 2017, while a suitable co-educational situation is been worked out for it and the others in the area. Again it has similar numbers to Lisnaskea High School before it was closed one day after decision was made. Why was Lisnaskea High School not allowed to be involved in this also? A lot of other schools were also mentioned that were receiving different amount of money for refurbishments. Again without seeming to repeat myself, CCMS schools again are coming out as winners.

Through this paper I would again like to ask, if Mr O’Dowd Education Minister would answer why this is continuing to happen? Why are similar schools been closed or kept open? Mr O’Dowd should have a letter on his desk this week from me. Maybe he would like to answer it through the paper. So everyone knows why.

Maybe he would even give those involved in the Lisnaskea High School Group a chance to meet with him. I know he is a busy man, but he did have time to be in the south east Fermanagh Area a few weeks ago. I will wait for his reply with interest.

Yours Faithfully Supporter of Lisnaskea High School
