Fermanagh Premier manager John Quinn admits that it was tough week at the Milk Cup but while results didn't go their way, the manager was pleased with the displays of his side.
The side recorded a win, a draw and three defeats but apart from the defeat to Newcastle United at Ferney Park in the opening game they were competitive in all their games and were unfortunate not to have taken more out of a couple of the games.
The win they did register came in the final game against Otago last Thursday.
"It was a tough week, as it usually is at the Milk Cup, and we were pleased to finish it with a win," said Quinn. "We set ourselves targets at the start of the competition but unfortunately we didn't make those targets. We would liked to have picked up four points from our group games but we didn't succeed in that. Then we hoped to try and win the semi-final but we didn't manage that either, so from a results perspective it would have been disappointing but overall we would have been happy with the performances of the players." Quinn felt that his side were out of luck over the week and they could have won more than the one game.
"Apart from the Newcastle game which was at Ferney Park, we were unlucky in a few games. Against Benfica we had two goals disallowed but that's the way it goes at times," he said.
Quinn feels though that the players enjoyed the experience at the Milk Cup.
"The boys bonded very well and from what I have heard they all enjoyed it and they will have benefitted from the experience in so many ways. If you had said to the boys at the start of the week that they would be playing Benfica in a semi-final they would have been delighted with that," stated Quinn.
The manager was also full of praise for the attitude of his players.
"The attitude and discipline of the players was very good throughout the week," he commented.
