Roslea Shamrocks 2-07

Ederney St. Joseph's 0-13

Sean Quigley's late point kept Roslea's league final hopes alive as they shared the spoils with Ederney on Sunday.

A win for Ederney would have been enough for them to progress to a final meeting with Derrygonnelly Harps and they held a one point lead as the game drew to a close. But sharp shooter Sean Quigley, who contributed the bulk of his side's scores on the day, lofted over a point to snatch a draw for the Shamrocks.

Roslea though are relying on Derrygonnelly doing them a favour this week by beating Ederney in the final round of games. Roslea have now completed their fixtures and are level with Ederney in second place with the Harps having already sealed their spot in the final. If Ederney can take a point or better from their game against Derrygonnelly they will go through to the final while a Derrygonnelly win will leave Roslea and Ederney playing off for the right to meet the Harps in the league decider.

"We're disappointed not to have secured our final spot," said Ederney manager Mark Henry. "We dominated for long periods of the game but we were severely punished for errors at the back and that's something we will have to improve on this week as Derrygonnelly pose a big challenge. The positive thing for us though is that since our championship defeat to Derrygonnelly we have been unbeaten and if you had said to us then that we would have a chance of reaching the league final going into the last game we would have taken that."

Ederney produced some good football in the first half as went on to dominate possession, making a bright start in which they forged open an early advantage.

Declan McCusker was a key player for the St. Joseph's outfit in the first period as he rattled over three points from play while Peter Gormley also registered from play with Chris Snow banging over a number of frees and a 45.

Roslea though always carry a goal threat and they found the net ten minutes from the interval to make sure that they stayed in touch at the break.

A long ball in was contested by Roslea full forward Quigley and Ederney full back Stephen McElrone and goalkeeper Enda Ferris with Quigley getting a flick to take the ball to the net. Quigley was also among the points in the first half as the home side went in three adrift, 0-09 to 1-03.

Ederney started the second half well too but Darren McCusker and Paul McCusker both failed to add to their tally from good scoring opportunities and from this it was a much more even affair.

Ederney did have points from Marty McGrath, Finbarr Gillen and Gormley but Roslea were brought back into the game with a goal from Diarmuid McAleer after good work from Quigley.

As the game drew to a close Paul McCusker landed a free to put Ederney one ahead but Quigley was to have the last say. A Conor Mulligan long ball was met by the fist of Ederney goalkeeper Ferris but it was collected by McAleer who laid it off to Quigley and he clipped the ball over the bar to leave it level at the finish.
