Ballinamallard manager Whitey Anderson says that his players will give it everything in their final game of the season against Carrick Rangers in an effort to retain their Premiership status.

The Mallards go into that game sitting tenth in the table, a point ahead of Warrenpoint and two in front of Carrick and a win would guarantee they will play in the top flight next season.

Anderson watched his side bag a late winner through a Stephen O'Flynn penalty against Ballymena on Saturday to keep their noses in front of the bottom two and he knows exactly what is at stake in next Saturday.

"This has to be the biggest game - we either stay in the Premier League or we don't," he said.

"We have one game to go to get out of it, it's in our own hands. All we can do is try to get a result at Carrick and that is what our aim will be.

"The club has fought hard to get here and I know that group of players we have will fight hard to keep us here. If they give 100 per cent commitment like they did today, I'm confident we wil get a result."

On the win over Ballymena, he added:

"It was a game which could have went away from us but the boys showed great desire, great heart, they dug in and got a result.

"It was difficult for both sides. Pitches at this time of the year are very bobbly and it's hard to get your foot on the ball - sometimes you just have to play the conditions. We did that in the first half and we had a few chances. We had great situations from free kicks where our delivery probably wasn't good enough. Then Ballymena got a free kick, which I thought was a soft one, when Tony Kane steps up to hit it, nine times out of 10 it's going to end up in the bottom of the net.

"Against the wind sometimes it's easier but it didn't prove that way - it could easily have been 2-0 before we equalised.

"We were chasing the game and we had to leave a few spaces and Ballymena will probably be disappointed with some of the opportunities they wasted. But sometimes when you work hard enough you earn that wee bit of luck," he said.
