Fermanagh manager Pete McGrath will take his time over deciding whether or not he will return for a fourth year at the helm of county side.
The former Down All Ireland winning boss has had three years in charge of Fermanagh and the side have made good progress over the last two seasons with McGrath having watched his side consolidate their position in Division Two in the spring time and had led them to an All Ireland Quarter-final against Dublin in Croke Park last summer.
The side’s championship campaign though came to an end on Saturday with the defeat to Mayo in Castlebar and McGrath, speaking after the game, says he will take time to reflect on matters before making a decision on his future.
“I said to the players, and I know we have some in the changing room who are considering their future, that I will take a while to look at things. It’s been three years and they have been very enjoyable but it’s highly time consuming in terms of the travelling and all that type of stuff so I think it’s only fair to myself that I take time to reflect,” he commented.
Meanwhile, one player has already called time on his county career. Roslea’s Niall Cassidy, who missed the Mayo clash due to suspension, took to twitter on Sunday to announce his retirement from inter-county football.
He said: “Disappointed the way our season ended. I’d like to wish the lads all the best in the future. It was an honour to put on the county jersey.”
