Shane McCabe has agreed a new two year deal with Ballinamallard United.
The experienced midfielder has accepted a pay cut as he was determined to remain at the club and is keen to play a role in helping some of the younger players at the club progress.
With the budget for this season having been reduced new manager Gavin Dykes asked McCabe to accept reduced terms and the player has agreed to the request and will put pen to paper on a new two year deal.
“I’m pleased that it is all sorted out because the bottom line is that I wanted to stay at the club,” said McCabe. “I signed a two year deal last year and I could have saw out the remaining year on those terms but I know the situation that the club is in, they needed players to take pay cuts and I’ve agreed to do that. This is my local club, I want to stay here and I like what Gavin is trying to do with the side.”
McCabe is keen to get involved in coaching when his playing days are finished and he says that the club are going to help him gain his badges.
“As a player I want to help more young lads like Ryan Morris and Davy Elliott come through and settle into the first team and I know there is going to be an emphasis on young players. I also want to get involved in coaching and try and help bring players through when I’m finished playing and the club have agreed to help with my coaching badges,” he stated.
Manager Gavin Dykes is also delighted that the matter has now been put to bed and he is looking forward to a big season from McCabe.
“I can’t speak highly enough of Shane, it was a very difficult situation for him to be in. He had a contract and the club said they would honour the contract but we asked him would he help us financially and I’m glad to say that he did. He wanted to stay, I wanted him to stay and the club wanted him to stay and I think it is very important that we keep the better players that we have here. He is a great model for the younger lads that we have and I’m absolutely delighted that he is staying and hopefully he will go on to have a great season,” said Dykes.
