Enniskillen Santos 5 Dunbreen Rovers 2

Enniskillen Santos warmed up for this weekend’s derby clash with Enniskillen Town with a comfortable 5-2 win over Dunbreen Rovers in the IFA Junior Cup.
Although there was little between the sides in terms of possession in the first half, Santos were the more incisive of the teams as they went in at the break with a three goal advantage. And two goals from Nicky Dunbar saw them extend that lead in the second half before Dunbreen hit back with two late consolation goals.
“We were missing four or five players on Saturday so I would have to be happy enough with the result and we’re pleased to be through to the next round as this was a potential bananaskin,” said Santos player-manager Joe Keenan.
The home side couldn’t have claimed to have bossed the game but they were to take the lead after ten minutes through Craig Johnston.
Striker Seamie Quigley controlled a ball played forward to him before turning and putting through Johnston who finished to the net.
And with half an hour on the clock, Santos went on to double their advantage. Teenager Jordan Deery’s corner was met by Duwayne Beacom who headed home to make it 2-0 to the home outfit.
It got even better for Santos before the interval as they bagged a third goal with Deery getting on the scoresheet as he hammered a half volley to the corner of the net to leave the home side three goals to the good at the break.
A fourth goal arrived midway through the second half as Dunbar grabbed his first of the day, getting on the end of a Johnston cross before sending a thumping header to the back of the net.
And Dunbar added his second from the penalty spot after Beacom had been upended in the box to make it 5-0.
Santos though seemed to switch off after this and Dunbreen struck twice in the final 15 minutes to leave it 5-2 at the finish.
It is now on to the derby encounter this weekend for Santos and Keenan would expect to have a stronger hand to pick from although new signing Cathal Beacom may not yet be ready to return having sustained a rib injury playing gaelic recently.
“It’s a big derby game and I would expect to have most of the players who were missing back this week. On Cathal though we’ll have to wait and see as he is still a bit sore,” added Keenan.
