Kesh man Glenn Irvine will hope to take the next step towards his ultimate goal of making it into the UFC when he competes on the Brave 13: Europe Evolution, at the SSE Arena in Belfast.
The 27 year old MMA fighter comes into his contest against Poland’s Konrad Iwanowski on the back of three wins and now moves up to a bigger promotion as he looks to push his career forward.
“I have fought in big promotions such as BAMMA which is a worldwide promotion but this promotion is probably the biggest I will have fought on.
“My plans are to get to the very top. The first step towards that is to give up work and be able to train and fight full time and get to the biggest promotion in the world which is UFC. I have no doubt in my mind that I will get there,” he said.
Glenn currently trains around his full time job and he admits it can be tough going.
“I’m working full time during the week but I still train every single day. I train every night, six days a week and sometimes I would actually get up before work in the morning and do a session by myself. To do that and work full time is quite hard.”
He will enter the fight though in a confident mood after a good run of wins that started with a late call up to a title decider.
“ I got a call from a team mate who was in England at the time and he asked was I interested in a fight at six days notice. It was a big fight, it was the main event and it was a number one contender fight. I took the fight and knocked the opponent out in 23 seconds. I then faced the champion of that promotion and I took the title of him by submitting him in a choke in 1minute 47seconds and in the last fight I went over again and defended the title and it lasted 12 seconds via knock out,” he said.
So, what about this Saturday night’s opponent?
“I actually watched him fight a team-mate of mine a couple of years ago. He is more of a wrestler, grappler style fighter so he will be strong in that department but I have every belief in myself that I can go in there and beat him.”
