Golden Star ABC, under the watchful eye of coach Kevin Simmonds, enjoyed great success at the Ulster youth finals and they will be hoping to follow that up by making their mark at the national finals which are held in Dublin.
The Golden Star club entered four boxers in the Ulster Championships and all four were crowned champions with three of them now set to compete at the National finals in Dublin which commence this weekend.
Cealan Doherty is the new U18 54kg Ulster champion but he’ll have to wait for his chance for the Irish title.
Going to Dublin, though, will be 14 year old Lucy Freeman at 43kg, 15 year old Caitlin Murray at 57kg and 14 year old Bernard McElholm, who is currently in fine form having won his Ulster title with a third round stoppage of his opponent.
Meanwhile, all the clubs boxers will be competing at the club’s first tournament which will be held at Mahon’s Hotel on Saturday April 2.
