Enniskillen Town dispatched second-division side Lisnaskea Rovers 3-0, with goals from Conor Watson, Lee Brennan and Conall Quinn sealing their progress to round two of the Mulhern Cup.

Town came into the match on a run of three games without a win, and had been dumped out of the Irish Junior Cup by Dergview Reserves the previous weekend, but manager Rory Judge was delighted with how they bounced back against Rovers.

“By and large the game was over at half time and it was comfortable enough,” he said.

“It was probably a good fixture for us after the week before, and to get a clean sheet on top of that showed that we do have that ability to bounce back.

“We are glad to get a win again and it gives us a bit of confidence going into another league game this Saturday. We left a few out there, but the scoreline was probably reflective of the performance. It was comprehensive without being too emphatic.”

Lisnaskea were hampered by the unavailability of prolific scorer Brian McDermott, and manager Shane O’Donnell felt their lack of a clinical edge in front of goal was decisive.

“We played well and battled hard, and we had our chances, but they took theirs and we didn’t take ours,” he reflected.

“If we had our full squad out we wouldn’t have been afraid of them, because they can be got at, but they took their chances and we didn’t. It wasn’t a disgrace anyway. We were playing a superior team, and they are good. The boys did their best.”

Town took 10 minutes to take the lead when Conor Tummon whipped in a deep cross to his opposite full back, and Watson controlled the pass and slotted it past the keeper from six yards out.

Lisnaskea packed the midfield, with Seamus Quigley playing a lone striker role, and several chances fell to Quigley during the first half but he volleyed over the bar twice before Town extended their lead.

Five minutes before the break Jamal Tavares delivered a cross from the left and Brennan headed in unmarked.

Ten minutes into the second half Quigley again came close when he thumped a free kick off the crossbar, but any hopes of a Rovers fightback were extinguished on the hour mark when Tavares’ pass released Quinn, and he fired a left-footed shot high into the roof of the net.

Sean Conlon was denied by the feet of Town goalkeeper Gary Doherty in the closing minutes, as Town held on to ensure they entered the draw for the next round.
