An injury-time equaliser from Dergview Reserves denied Lisbellaw victory in a closely contested match at Spamount.

Joel Gibson’s goal for Dergview had levelled the scores after Peter Armstrong had given the visitors an early lead, but it looked like Paul McGrath’s second-half strike for Lisbellaw would earn them all three points before Cameron Coyle’s last-gasp strike.

Lisbellaw manager Kyle McCleery admitted it was tough to see his side drop points so late in the game.

“I thought we shaded it in terms of chances created although they did have a lot of possession, but to drop points in the manner we did with the last kick of the game was disappointing,” he conceded.

“It was an even game with not much between the sides and not many chances at either end, but when you are so close to the three points you can’t help but feel disappointed that you have only come away with one point.”

Dergview came into the match having not lost a game since the turn of the year, and they looked like they were going to extend that run as they dominated proceedings in the early stages.

Despite their pressure and a succession of corners, they struggled to test Josh Brownlee in the Lisbellaw goal, and it was Lisbellaw who took the lead after 36 minutes.

Lewis Vance had his initial cross from the right blocked, but the ball bounced back to him and he cut onto his left foot and delivered a deep cross that was side-footed in at the back post by Armstrong to record his first goal for the club.

The longer the half progressed the more threatening Lisbellaw became and Jamie Coalter spurned a great chance from six yards out after David Freeman’s shot had been deflected.

On the stroke of half-time, Lisbellaw were handed a great chance to extend their lead when Stuart Mortland lost his footing as he carried the ball out of defence. Sam Lindsay picked up possession and drove towards goal before trying to square the ball to McGrath, but the pass was behind him and by the time he had readjusted the defence had recovered to clear.

10 minutes into the second half Dergview spectacularly drew level when Joel Gibson cut in from the right and curled a shot from 25 yards into the top corner.

Midway through the second half Lisbellaw restored their lead.

Dergview’s new goalkeeper signing Daniel Gilmore miscued a clearance and McGrath took full advantage, picking up possession and blasting past a defender on the goal line.

With the game deep in added time and Dergview pushing men forward, Lisbellaw had a great chance to seal the points when they broke forward in numbers, but Sam Lindsay’s shot was off target and it presented Dergview with one last chance.

The home team launched the ball forward, and from a right-wing cross, Coyle bundled the ball over the line at the back post to ensure the points were shared.
