League leaders Enniskillen Town were held to a 3-3 draw by bottom club Castlederg United at Mitchell Park, with goals from Lee Brennan, Jamal Tavares and Cathal Beacom not proving enough to take all three points.

With both of Town’s league title chasing rivals in cup action they had a chance to extend their lead at the top of Division One to four points, but they failed to capitalise in a draw that manager Rory Judge described as "sickening".

“It was definitely two points dropped,” Judge admitted. “We created enough chances to win two games, but we were sloppy defensively.

"Three goals should be enough to win any game against any opponent, and the fact it wasn’t enough to win against a team who are rock bottom of the league was sickening.

"It was three individual mistakes, one from the keeper and two from the centre half. We shouldn’t be conceding goals like that and putting pressure on the forwards to score more than three. Saturday was a bit of a sickener, although I thought some of the guys should have got better protection from some of the tackles.

"Results like this happen in every division and we just have to accept it and move on. I don’t think we have been playing well in recent weeks, but we have been getting results and our run is still decent. We haven’t lost since the end of September, so we will keep going and see where it takes us over the next few weeks.”

On a small and uneven pitch Town struggled to get into a flow in the early stages, and they fell behind after just two minutes when Sean Keenan failed to control a pass on the edge of his penalty area, and Jack Quinn rifled a shot into the roof of the net from 25 yards.

Brennan then headed straight at the keeper from six yards, but Town did get back on level terms midway through the half when Darren Freeman was fouled on the edge of the area and Brennan curled a left-footed equaliser into the top corner.

Within 10 minutes Castlederg had restored their lead when Town goalkeeper Gary Doherty could not keep out Dylan Russell’s free kick.

Town hit back within two minutes with Jamal Tavares’ first goal for a year. Freeman broke forward down the left and cut inside the defender, with the ball breaking for Tavares, and his first-time strike from 25 yards found the top corner.

In the second half, Tavares headed over from six yards and Thomas Owens glanced a header wide before Town took the lead for the first time when Ethan Beresford’s long throw-in was headed in by Beacom.

Town could not hold on to their advantage however, and with 10 minutes remaining James Harpur pounced on a loose ball when Town failed to clear a free kick, and he fired low underneath the keeper to snatch a share of the points.
