Ballinamallard U14s showed great skill, spirit and a full squad effort to come out on top of this entertaining NI Plate game against Ballymena United, eventually winning 4-3 after extra-time.

They took a deserved early lead as Cathair Maguire placed a superbly weighted through-ball to Nathan Coyle, who finished powerfully into the Ballymena net.

Captain Tim Armstrong doubled the lead with a long-range effort finding the top corner.

Ballymena began the second half with renewed energy and pulled a goal back to put the tie back in the balance.

Striker Jay Ely was to restore the two-goal cushion with a perfect lob from 30 yards, giving the Ballymena keeper no chance.

Ballymena showed great resilience to get back into the game and scored twice following intense pressure to send the game to extra time.

The hard work on the training pitch showed and with great performances from Shay Gallagher, Kimi Thompson and Kadyn McGoldrick an opportunity fell to Maguire and he picked his spot from the edge of the penalty box to finally see off the challenge with a home quarter-final the reward for the win.
