Derek McGarritty came out on top in this year’s Jennings Fuels and Lubricants Mayday stages rally.

The Enniskillen Motorclub, celebrating its 60th year as a club, enjoyed another successful day of racing with plenty of spectators in attendance on bank holiday Monday.

It was a close ending as McGarritty and Aaron Mclaughlin went head-to-head to take this year’s crown, racing in POLO R5 cars.

As the pair came to the end of the race McGarrity held his nerve better of the pair with McLaughlin slightly faltering resulting in McGarrity clinching victory by a total of 12 seconds in the end.

Johnny Leonard of Killadeas had his hopes of a win cut short in the rally when he spun and stalled leaving him in 46th place driving the FAL Fiesta R5, however, he turned things around, and navigated by brother Ryan Leonard managed to take 4th in the end, grabbing local honours in the process.

Meanwhile, Mark Johnston headed the Class 5 in the event, with a 40-second margin of victory in the class.

Belcoo native Dominic Leonard landed some brilliant times and sealed a Class 8 victory over local rival Colm McBride.

Raymond Johnston also got in on the action and had a late entry in a well-contested Class 3 Micra. The Ballinamallard man and Jody McManus stormed to a convincing Micra Challenge win with over a minute to spare.

There were also finishes for Belleek’s Damien McGauran, as he took a second in Class 6 and Ruairi Maguire finished second in Class 4 in his Vauxhall.

The EMC showed their appreciation for Monday’s volunteers who played their part in a well-run day with Fermanagh’s rally enthusiasts enjoying an exciting day of racing.
