Ederney Boxing Club held their annual home tournament in Mahon’s Hotel last Friday.
This was the club’s first home show of the season and the local boxers were looking forward to getting into the ring on the night.
Overall there were 12 contests and five home boxers were competing. Along with this there was local clubs from around Tyrone and Fermanagh contesting bouts, including Omagh, Strabane and Cookstown.
Out of the five home boxers there were four wins. Local favourite Conor Cassidy fell just short in what was his first appearance in the ring but showed his potential. There were wins for Charlie McDonagh, who continues his winning streak, John McDonagh, Conall McAleer and Aaron Baird.
McAleer who was also making his ring debut produced a solid three round on route to victory. Current ulster champion Aaron Baird also continued his very impressive winning streak. Aaron has had 16 contest in the last two years, coming away with a record of 15 wins and one defeat. Aaron, along with Charlie now looks forward to the upcoming Mid-Ulster Championships.
