Donagh jockey Ryan Treacy was among the winners on Sunday when he rode 6/1 shot Imperial Shabra to victory in the Seamus Mulvaney Crockafotha Handicap Hurdle at Bellewstown.

The 19 year old has been working hard at making a name for himself and was delighted to have bagged the win on Sunday afternoon.

"You need to keep getting wins and I'm very pleased with it. I rode a winner on him (Imperial Shabra) in Galway last year but this was my first win over hurdles with him," said Treacy.

And the Fermanagh man was back in the saddle on Tuesday evening in Roscommon when he rode The Boss On The Hill who is owned by Newtownbutler man Pat Melarkey.

It is a busy time of the year for Ryan and he is hoping that he gets a ride at the big Galway Festival race meeting at the end of the month.

"My boss Oliver Brady may be bringing a few horses to Galway and I would certainly love to be riding at it as it is a big meeting although it takes a lot of work to get your horse there and you need a good animal to go to Galway," he commented.

Although it is a lot of hard work, Ryan is enjoying life as jockey and feels he has the best possible support around him in trainer Oliver Brady and his team in Castleblayney.

"There is no better man to work for than Oliver, he offers me great support. You then have Anthony McCann who is the head lad in the yard and Rita Shah who owns a lot of the horses in the yard. The three of them have been brilliant with me," he added.

And, the Donagh lad intends on keeping his head down and working hard.

"There are a lot of sacrifices that you have to make. There is a lot of fitness work and you have to watch what you eat and keep your weight down. You only get out of it though what you put in and hopefully I will keep injury free, get rides and the winners will come," he said.
