Enniskillen Santos came from two goals behind to defeat Rangers in a crucial encounter at the Forum which drops newly promoted Rangers into the bottom two although ‘Gers boss Billy Reynolds is not about to hit the panic button, believing his side should have taken something out of the game.

“I would be disappointed not to have taken anything out of the game. I felt we probably deserved to win the game or at least got a draw. There will be no knee jerk reactions from us though and I think going by Saturday’s performance we are as good as most Division One teams and better than some. Hopefully we will be able to climb the table soon,” he said.

Santos counterpart, Joe Keenan though was delighted with the manner his side fought back to oveturn the two goal deficit.

“To come from two goals down is hard in any game but in a derby game is especially difficult and that was the most pleasing thing about the game for me as I felt we didn’t play as well as we did last week when we lost to Lisbellaw. We responded well and battled well and it is a welcome three points for us. It was important for us to get the win as it lifts us over Rangers in the table and up towards mid-table although we have another tough game on Saturday against Glebe,” stated Keenan.

Rangers failed all game to deal with the twin threat of the impressive Byron McNern and Jamie Murphy with the latter bagging the two goals in the second half to win the game for Santos after McNern had got them back into the game in the first half, and Reynolds admits they were the main difference between the sides.

“Byron and Jamie were in top form on Saturday and to be honest they were too hot for us to handle,” he commented.

Santos created the first opening of the game when Rory Brazil’s long ball found Murphy free at the back post but Jerome Carleton saved well with his feet but Rangers started impressively with Jonathan Turley sueprbly finishing two chances in the first ten minutes to fire them into a 2-0 lead.

The ‘Gers took the game by the scruff of the neck as Liam Lindsay and Lee McQuade combined well down the right to earn a corner. McQuade fired over a ball to the back post and the unmarked Turley controlled the ball well and fired low into the net past the helpless Gary Ramsay.

And it was 2-0 minutes later, Turley running on to a Jason McClintock flick to race through on goal and slot home past Ramsay with barely ten minutes played.

This was an open encounter throughout, Carleton saving superbly from a Darren McQuade header before Santos got back in the game as they puulled a goal back in the 20th minute.

Rangers had two chances to clear but McNern picked up the break and danced into the box before shooting left footed into the corner of the net for 2-1.

Murphy and McQuade went close for Santos before William Burleigh and Turley had shots superbly blocked by the Santos defence while Turley could not force a fumble from Ramsay over the line after McClintock had shot at goal.

Then in the dying minutes of the half, Joe Doogan made a super clearance as headed a Murphy effort off the goal line.

The game turned early in the second half when Burleigh made a great block in midfield and broke down the left before squaring to Turley whose effort from 18 yards was superbly turned away by Ramsay.

Not long after, the game was level as McNern again was given room wide on the left and he played the ball into Murphy who cut inside David Crozier and neatly placed the ball into the corner of the net for 2-2.

Turley was then unlucky with an instinctive effort after a good ball from Derek Sharpe before Santos took the lead.

Chris Keenan had replaced McQuade and he found space on the edge of the box. His shot was saved by Carleton but broke to Murphy who volleyed home for 3-2 with 20 minutes remaining.

Keenan was then unlucky with a chipped effort that was superbly saved by the impressive Carleton while at the other end Turley excellent header just flew over after great work down the left by Rangers substitute Adam Chartres.

Rangers pushed for an equaliser and in the closing minutes Doogan’s excellent 30 yard free kick clipped the top of the bar while veteran Joe Keenan headed a super Chartres cross clear with Burleigh waiting to pounce.
