Enniskillen Athletic need one point from their final game against Dunbreen Rovers on Saturday to secure promotion to Division Two in their first season in the league.

The two sides met on Saturday at Celtic Park with Peter Goan’s side producing a strong second half performance to run out 6-1 winners, although the Athletic boss says that they have focused all year on taking it one game at a time and that’s what they will do again on Saturday in Omagh.

“We need a point from our last game to gain promotion so it is all still to play for. We’ve always looked at things as one game at a time and we will treat this the same way,” he said.

Having gone in at the break at 1-1, Athletic struck five times in the second half to clinch the victory which delighted Goan.

“It was a very good second half performance. Defenisively we were very solid and our midfield and forwards weighed in with goals,” he added.

Athletic had enjoyed the better of the contest in the first half but they struggled to make the most of their chances with a number of good opportunities not availed of.

Brothers Michael and Darrin Simpson were both guilty of wasting chances in the early period of the encounter but with 27 minutes played Athletic were to make the breakthrough as Daniel Dunbar picked out Richard Flaherty with a ball over the top and he showed great composure to slot home.

However, as half time approached Dunbreen swopped for an equaliser to leave it 1-1 at the break.

It was all Athletic though in the second half with the home side regaining the lead two minutes after the resumption. Paul Coulter’s cross was latched on to by Darrin Simpson and he tucked the ball away.

Michael Simpson then bagged a quick fire hat-trick to put the game beyond Dunbreen before Christopher Currie rounded things off with a sixth.
