NFC Kesh’s wait for their first league win of the season goes on after they lost out at home to Tummery. They never recovered from the loss of two early goals but manager Niall Amos and his team believe that elusive win is not far away.

“We had a good chat after the game and the boys are still in good spirits,” said Niall. “They are all expecting this win to come and for it to come sooner rather than later, and when it comes we are all expecting a bit of a run to happen. We didn’t play badly and we created chances and could have scored seven or eight. They were limited to one or two good chances but we need to cut out our silly mistakes. At the minute we are doing what we have been doing all season, we have been beating ourselves and giving ourselves too much to do. Maybe the longer it goes on the more it will play on their minds but we are happy enough and we need that one win to kick start the season. We have Fintona away this week, and they are one of the teams we have targeted. It’s a big one.” The game was marred by Kesh’s Callum Funston breaking his leg and suffering ligament damage, but Niall acknowledged it was not the result of a bad tackle. “It wasn’t a dirty tackle. It wasn’t even a foul,” he said. “It was just a 50-50 tackle and the two players went for it. I’ve seen worse tackles and boys getting up from it.” Kesh were two behind after 15 minutes with the first coming from a Tummery corner. The cross was flicked on at the front post and tapped in from close range by Gerry McCullagh, and five minutes later the visitors broke down the left and the cross was dispatched into the net with a Ryan Cunningham back post header to put them two ahead.

Kesh responded well to falling behind and almost pulled a goal back within two minutes when Lee Walker’s shot came off the underside of the crossbar before bouncing to safety. And the same player was not to be denied soon after when he broke through the Tummery defence and slid the ball underneath the keeper. Instead of inspiring Kesh to an equaliser however Tummery immediately hit back to add a third before half time as McCullagh bagged his second of the game.

Five minutes into the second half the game was interrupted for 45 minutes for the bad injury to Callum Funston, and Tummery caught Kesh cold in the restart netting their fourth through Cunningham.

With 20 minutes remaining Kesh scored their second when Nicky Allen turned in a Peter Townsend cross but it was too little too late.
