Big guns Strathroy Harps and Enniskillen Town United eased into the quarter-finals of the Impartial Reporter Mulhern Cup with comfortable wins over Dergview Reserves and Spamount respectively.

What’s more, the two teams have been kept apart in the draw. potentially meaning the top two teams in the division could meet in the final. That said there is plenty of football still to be played and the likes of Lisnaskea Rovers, Killen Rangers, Irvinestown Wandrerers, Lisbellaw United and Enniskillen Rangers will have plenty to say about it.

Indeed, Enniskillen Town had to come from behind twice to beat Spamount.

Johnny Hoy levelled at 1-1 but Harper fired Spamount into the lead again at 2-1 at half-time.

Town though went through the gears in the second half with goals from Gary Beckett, Adam Breen, Ryan Hanna, Brendan Lilley and Frank Wallace.

Town, who will be looking for a record equalling fourth consecutive win in the cup, will now play Lisnaskea Rovers in the last eight at the Castle Park, Centre following last week’s draw. Elsewhere, Irvinestown Wanderers’ reward for beating Beragh has been a tough away game to highflying Strathroy Harps while Enniskillen Rangers will tarvel to Drumad to take on Lisbellaw and Killen Rangers will play either Strule or Tummery Athletic.

Tummery and Strule will have to replay their abandoned game after the FWFA heard that the game was abandoned in the 70th minute while their rule states more than 70 minutes must be played for a result to stand.

This is harsh on second division Strule who were leading 2-0 at the time of the serious injury to Tummery player Damian Sloan that necessitated the game to be abandoned.

In the semi-final draw the winners of Srathroy/Irvinestown Wanderers will play either Killen/Tummery/Strule while the winners of Lisnaskea/Enniskillen Town will play the winners of Lisbellaw United/Enniskillen Rangers. Three last eight ties will be played on Saturday, April 4 as will the outstanding Tummery game as Strule have a free week this weekend.
