In his report to Convention, County Secretary Tom Boyle has stressed that 2016 was another challenging year with regards to finances while he also warns that external factors such as Brexit could lead to more uncertainty in the year ahead.
“I want to emphasise that 2016 was again another very challenging year for us in relation to income and expenditure. As we move into 2017 we will face uncertainty due to external factors such as Brexit and the change of political leadership in the USA which is already impacting on Euro/Sterling rates.
“We need to work in conjunction with our colleagues at National and Provincial level to mitigate the impact of these issues,” he said.
In this respect the work of Club Eirne has come in for praise from Boyle with the fundraising arm of Fermanagh GAA having provided substantial funds over the past 12 months.
“Club Eirne under the leadership of Gerard Treacy (Chairperson) has worked hard at generating funds for the county. To date in the region of £105,000 has been raised in 2016 and I want to take this opportunity to thank each Club Eirne affiliated member for their contribution to the resourcing of our county finances,” added Boyle.
Indeed, Boyle went on to thank all the sponsors for their financial support during 2016.
On Lissan, the Secretary feels that it is crucial to review and assess the future development of the site.
“In my report to the 2014 Convention I noted that ‘Lissan Centre has being up and running since 2005 and over this period a lot of traffic has passed through. All this takes its toll on the wear and tear of the facilities. It is time to do a comprehensive review of existing facilities and put in place a plan to maintain existing structures and explore new developments on the Lissan site.’
“Two years on I have to report that little progress apart from some remedial work to the playing fields and existing buildings has been made on this front. In 2017 it is important that we review and assess future development of Lissan.”
And Boyle went on to pay tribute outgoing Chairman Patsy Dolan who stands down after five years in the role.
“I want to personally thank him for his advice and support over this period and pay tribute to him for the manner in which he has dealt with many difficult issues and thank him for the generosity of his time to the post,”stated the Fermanagh Secretary.
