Two teams with a massive senior championship tradition will clash this Sunday in Derrylin at 7.00pm. Lisnaskea and Teemore lock horns in what is undoubtedly the tie of the round in the Intermediate championship. Lisnaskea are operating in division one this season while Teemore are top of the second division but Emmetts boss, Peter Clarke, is not reading too much into league football as throw in approaches; “You could say that we are playing in a higher division but you could also say that this game sees one team who were promoted last year, ourselves, against a team who were demoted last year but who look to be coming straight back up this year, in Teemore,” he said, before adding, “I have always thought that league was just a preparation for the championship and all that matters is what each team can bring to the table on Sunday night.” The Emmetts have lost their three fixtures since league football has resumed but they have been playing against teams in the top five in each of those games. Lisnaskea are generally a young team who have a sprinkling of experienced players such as Niall McElroy, Kevin and Conor Curran, Mark McKenna and Mark Little while they will look to the sharpshooting exploits of Daniel Kille to provide them with the scores to book a semi final spot.

Meanwhile Sean Donnelly, the Teemore boss is expecting a real ‘tight battle’.

“I think the fact Lisnaskea have been playing better organised teams will probably help them but we will be going there to win the game. The Intermediate championship is probably at the strongest it has ever been with the changes that have been made and everyone will be wanting to win it to get back into the senior championship.” Teemore are well served by a backbone of experienced players such as Hugh Brady, Declan O’Reilly, Barry Owens, Declan Fitzpatrick and Paul Martin although Brady and Fitzpatrick are doubts for the full sixty minutes due to injury niggles.

The Shamrocks also have some excellent young talent with the McManus cousins, Cian and Eoin two exceptional performers. The latter along with John Fitzpatrick will be looked upon to provide the fire power in attack and if they both click then Teemore will be hard to stop.

This promises to be a real titanic struggle and while these two traditional power houses of Fermanagh football may not be competing for the New York Cup they will ask, nor give any quarter and this should be a classic championship clash.
