Having previously had an American sports star named Jordan, American sports fans are already cherishing another star in the making - Jordan Spieth.

Fresh off a tie for second in his Masters debut, having led the season’s first major by two shots at one point on the front nine on Sunday, the fresh-faced 20-year-old from Dallas looks ready to fill the void as the first real superstar to come out of America since Tiger Woods.

Like his namesake, a certain NBA legend, Spieth, who last year became the fourth youngest PGA Tour champion at the John Deere Classic and first teenager in 82 years to win on the PGA Tour, is now set to take the bull by the horns.

Bubba Watson may have used his power and experience to win a second Green Jacket in three years on Sunday, but many patrons at Augusta National would have no doubt been choking on their pimento cheese sandwiches for much of the final round.

They knew they were witnessing the start of something big.

Spieth, the 2013 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year, is mature beyond his years, incredibly talented and has a red-hot short game as depicted by his hole-out from the sand at the tricky par-3 fourth on Sunday. His putting might be a little temperamental at times, as reflected with a costly three-jab from 25-feet at the par-5 eighth in the final round - for me, the turning point in The Masters as Bubba made birdie to go level - but I bet there aren’t many debutants who have led a greens-in-regulation statistic at Augusta National before. Spieth hit 53 of 72 greens for a 73.6% winning total.

The stars and stripes have been searching for a new poster boy for several years now, and Spieth certainly fits the bill.

Add to that the resurgence of another poster boy Rickie Fowler then all stands well for the Yanks.

With Spieth, however, the guy who didn’t even have a PGA Tour card at the beginning of 2013 and was ranked outside the top 800 in the world, I believe the hype and expectation levels should be at an all-time high. He’s here to stay and I fully expect him to start climbing that major ladder. Who knows it could be as soon as this summer?
