Trio enjoy success at British Championships

Jonny Cathcart, James McIlwaine and Colin Wright who enjoyed success at the British Powerlifting Championships.

There was great success for local powerlifters Colin Wright, Jonny Cathcart and James McIlwaine at the recent Great British Powerlifting Federation Classic (Unequipped) Championships with all three having now qualified for the IPF World Classic Championships which will be held in Russia next year.

The trio made it through to the Great British Championships after qualifying through the Northern Ireland competition. Colin, 120kg Master, was in fine form as was the British Masters 120kg and in doing so set a new British squat record of 285kg as well as a new British and Commonwealth deadlift record of 312.5kg.

Jonny (120+kg U23) and James (66kg Junior) were also to claim British titles in their respective groups.

All three are members of the Northern Ireland Powerlifting Federation. Colin who along with Jonny train at Bodyworks Gym on the Tempo Road in Enniskillen, has also recently won the Northern Ireland Masters Benchpress title in Tobermore while he will be representing Northern Ireland at the Four Nations International meet in Wales in November.
