The Enniskillen Lakelanders sent a nine strong team to the inaugural Swim Ulster Long Course meet at the new Aurora Aquatics and Leisure Centre 50m pool at Bangor.

The two day meet attracted some of the top swimmers in the Province including European Championship bronze medallist Sycerika McMahon.

These strong fields did not deter the young Lakelanders several of whom were taking on the Long Course 50m pool in competitive action for the first time.

Cathal Burns was once more among the medals winning gold in the 200m butterfly in a time of 2mins 33.80 seconds and he followed this up with a trio of silver medals in the 200m and 100m backstroke as well as the 400m Individual Medley. The Ulster squad swimmer rounded a good weekend off with bronze in the 100m breaststroke.

Natasha Love's excellent recent form continued and she helped herself to two medals with an excellent silver in the 50m backstroke in a time of 36.24 seconds.

Natasha won bronze in the 200m breaststroke while also turning in a number of top swims that just missed out on a medal.

Dara McGandy showed his expertise for the breaststroke events by claiming a silver and bronze in the 50m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke respectively, clocking 44.85 seconds for that silver success.

Rebecca Conway picked up a bronze medal in the 50m backstroke in a time of 43.0 seconds and some valuable long course experience over the weekend while Caitlin Love just missed out on a medal when fourth in the 50m freestyle.

Molly Flynn was not far off the podium either with a fifth place finish in the 200m breaststroke in a time of 3 mins 35.89 seconds while Rory Morris had a great meet, producing two personal best times in the 200m IM and the 100m freestyle.

Peter Dolan also secured a PB in the 200IM while Aimee Fitzpatrick clocked 3 mins 44.04 in her long course debut and will no doubt have learned much from the experience. Elsewhere at the championships, four Fermanagh swimmers who are members of Sliagh Beagh ASC proved they could compete with the best in Ulster as well bringing home between them a total of 15 medals.

They are Deirbhile Coll and sisters Alannah, Caoimhe and Caragh Leonard.

Deirbhile got the weekend off to a great start on Friday evening when the distance events took place, the women's 800m and the men's 1500m freestyle. Deirbhile took gold in her speciality event the 800m freestyle in the 15 and under category and Alannah took the silver in the 16 and under.

The girls were back in action the following day after a two hour training session that morning when Deirbhile took a further two silvers and one bronze in the 400m IM, 100m breaststroke and 100m butterfly.

Alannah also added to her medal haul with a further two silvers and two bronze in the 100m breaststroke, 50m and 200m freestyle and 100m backstroke.

Caoimhe Leonard was very pleased to have achieved her first ever Ulster medals with two bronze in the 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle in which she also produced new personal best times of 46.22secs and 36.58 secs respectively.

Caragh swimming in the nine and under plundered four silvers in the 100m breaststroke, 50m butterfly, 100m backstroke and 50m freestyle. Caragh was also happy to achieve a new time in the 50m freestyle of 37.29secs.
