COUNTRY legend Muriel Day pays tribute to the great ladies of Irish music industry in her latest video.

Originally from Newtownards, Muriel had her first taste of success during the Showband years, as the vocalist in the Dave Glover Showband – the same band that was the starting point in the career’s of U105’s George Jones, the BBC’s late Gerry Anderson and a very young Van Morrison who played support too.

She became a household name in Ireland, and was subsequently selected as the first female to represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest in Madrid in 1969.

Her Eurovision appearance introduced Muriel to some of the biggest names in the Music Industry at the time including Tom Jones’ manager, who would offer her a management contract.

In 1971, Muriel emigrated to Canada where she continued to tour with a new band, The Night Squad.

During this time, she would support the great Dusty Springfield on tour, and also regularly sang in Hugh Heffner’s Playboy Clubs across the country.

She would later open her own Gastropub in Kingston, Ontario, where she regularly performed live.

It was whilst Muriel was in Canada that one of her earlier recordings would be re-discovered in the UK.

‘Nine Times Out Of Ten’ which had been recorded years earlier, became a top-ten hit in the UK during the Northern Soul era.

Muriel returned to her native Northern Ireland in the 1990s, and has since appeared regularly at Showband events.

And after being inundated with requests from fans, Muriel has finally set to work on her new album, with a view to launching it to coincide with her birthday in January 2015.

She will be releasing the title track ‘Girls Night Out’ written by Nashville songwriter Colleen Loy, as a promotional single.

Muriel paid tribute to some of the female icons of Irish music as part of the promotional music video for the song.
