NO COUNCIL information was compromised after hackers attacked part of the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council website, the Council has said.
Last week The Impartial Reporter revealed that a group called AnonCoders – who claim to target Israeli government and ‘anti-muslim’ sites – had targeted the platform that hosts the minutes of local Council meetings.
A cryptic message left on the website by the hackers read: “Free Palestine. The Paris Attack Was NOT By Muslims.”
In a response to this paper, a spokeswoman for FODC said: “Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has been using a temporary platform to host information on meetings until a new platform was purchased and the appropriate training completed.
“[Last] week a problem with the links to this platform were discovered and on investigation it was established that a body had been able to post information onto the platform. All links to the compromised platform were broken and no data is now held on it,” she said before adding.
“IT officers had already commenced moving over meetings information to the new platform before the temporary platform was compromised and they have now accelerated this work.
“The Council website: www.fermanaghomagh.com is a separate entity to the temporary platform and this was not compromised in any way.
“No information was compromised as all the data held on the temporary platform was already in the public domain.
“The Council is not aware of any other local government website affected by this issue.”
